Our humble origins began in 2014 when a few Muslim brothers came together to establish a weekly Halaqa to understand the Qur’an, initially at our home premises. Soon, we realised the need to establish a Friday prayer facility for residents of Havant Borough Council. With this in mind, in 2015, we established a Friday prayer facility at Waterlooville Community Centre, providing local Muslims with a much-needed space for Jumma prayers.
The Waterlooville Community Centre temporarily served the local needs for Jumma prayer and occasional community events such as Ramadan iftar gatherings, but it did not fulfil the need for a permanent place of worship. With this temporary base, the search was on for a permanent place that could be utilised as a Mosque and Community Centre.
Allah fulfilled this ambition in 2017, when we were able to purchase a small GP surgery located in Havant with the support of local Muslim donors, as well as donations from across the country, including Qarde-Hasana, which we are still slowly paying back.
The Peace Centre today remains the only Mosque within the Greater Portsmouth area North of Portsmouth. From our relatively modest premises, we offer an extensive range of facilities for both the local Muslim community and the wider community as a whole.
